Top 5 characters from Harry Potter that were missing in the movies
1. Peeves the poltergeist
Peeves was featured in every single book, constantly making trouble for teachers and students alike. From alerting Argus Filch to Harry and the gang being out of bed at night in Book One, to helping Fred and George make Umbridge’s life a nightmare in Book Five. He even helps in the battle of Hogwarts in The Deathly Hallows. Sadly, he didn't even get a mention in the movies.
2. Dobby
The movies failed to give Dobby the credit he deserved for key events in the series. He was the one who gave Harry Potter the gillyweed for the second challenge of the Triwizard Tournament, he also was the one to tell Harry about the Room of Requirement when they needed ir for Dumbledore’s Army. He was also randomly useful at different times. In the movie, the credit for both of these things, goes to Neville rather than the house elf.
3. Winky and S.P.E.W
In the Goblet Of Fire, Winky is the house elf belong to Barty Crouch, originally accused of firing the Dark Mark into the sky and later sacked and working alongside Dobby at Hogwarts. When Hermione learns of the presence of over 100 house elves working at Hogwarts, she starts campaigning to free them, while usually being quick on the uptake she is remarkably slow in realising that they do not wish to be freed. But in the movie, both parts are completely cut out.
4. Rita Skeeter
In the books she has a significant role and is treated as almost a minor villain. She makes life difficult for Harry, Hermione and Hagrid as well as it being revealed that she is actually an unregistered animagus and has broken wizarding law. However, in the movie she is featured exactly once and is played as just a stupid, unscrupulous reporter.
5. The centaurs (but mainly Firenze and Bane)
In the movies, we meet Firenze when Harry serves his detention in the Forbidden Forest and that is it. But in The Order Of The Phoenix book he replaces Professor Trelawney as the Divination teacher and then remains after to share the subject. And Bane is the hot tempered centaur that tries to attack Harry and Hermione when they lead Professor Umbridge into the Forbidden Forest.
The movies made a lot of changes to the books, mostly I imagine, for time reasons (the films would be hours long if they included everything!), but it is a shame that these characters had their parts edited so much or cut entirely.
