Avery Mcshane: Greg Lyons
Avery McShane has been one of my favourite books of all time solely because everything in it could happen in real life (if you had a really exciting life!).
It starts out like most books when...BAM Avery, his dog Mati and his friends Billy and Tod go to a guy called Pablo Malo's house and steal some bananas, then Tod gets shot in the butt with a shotgun full of rock salt. After that, Avery and his friends declare war on Pablo Malo, some people get kidnapped and there's quite a bit of shooting... but I don't want to get carried away and spoil the surprises for new readers.
It is a really exciting book that makes you want to keep reading even when your parents tell you to turn off the lights. The book is set in Venzuela which adds to the adventure, but it does have quite a lot of shooting , so may be best to check if it is suitable for younger readers.
I really recommend this book and if a lot of us read it, we might be able to pressure the author into writing another book. According to his website, he has written two sequels; Avery McShane and the Lost Tepui and Avery McShane and the Voodoo Witch. Please Greg Lyons, publish them!!
